The given diagram displays the Hawaiian island chain located in the center of the Pacific Ocean.  

Overall, multiple volcanic eruptions occurring deep below the surface of the Pacific Ocean cause volcanoes to appear and the Pacific tectonic plate to shift. The Hawaiian island chain consists of several islands, with Hawaii being the biggest one.  

The volcanic eruption starts 2883 km below the surface of the Pacific Ocean, which creates a static hot spot spume. From this spume, a magma spume travels through the tectonic plate. As a result of multiple eruptions, the youngest volcano emerges. This process also causes the Pacific tectonic plate to shift northwest 7-9 cm each year. Due to this shift, the oldest volcano, which dates back 80 million years, is situated in the north west.  

The Hawaiian island chain includes a few major islands which are about 50 to 100 km apart from each other. Among these islands, Hawaii is the largest one, situated in the north east of the Pacific Ocean.
