Nowadays, an increasing number of people do their weekly shopping online instead of going to the shop.  

Is this a positive or a negative development?  

ANSWER

There are more people choosing to do their weekly shopping online rather than going to the shop these days. In my opinion, this is a positive trend because it helps people to save time and money.  

The first reason I feel that more people shopping online is beneficial is that it consumes less time than conventional shopping. This is because when people shop online, they can order many different items and pay within a few mouse clicks. In contrast, if they visit the shop in person, they must spend time commuting, and waiting at the cashier counter¹. For example, my mother used to complain about the long queue at Vinmart supermarket. Since she learnt how to shop online, she has not come back to the supermarket to spare herself from the traffic as well as the waiting time at the checkout area.  

Furthermore, consumers can also save money when they do their weekly shopping online. This happens because many shops or supermarkets offer exclusive online discounts to promote their online business². More people shopping online also enables shops to reduce the effort in displaying³ their goods in store, giving even more incentives to shop owners to encourage this type of shopping among consumers with special bargains. Take Megarmart in Danang, for instance, which provides free shipping with extra 10% off coupons for all items when people use its online shopping service, which can save local shoppers a significant amount of⁴ their weekly spending.  

In conclusion, there is an increase in the number of people who do their weekly shopping online instead of offline. Personally, I believe that this is a positive trend because it reduces the amount of time and money spent on this activity.
